Lymph nodes are small filters that help the body respond to infection and can provide early warning signs when something is wrong.
A lymph node ultrasound is a safe, quick way to assess their condition without invasive procedures or waiting for symptoms to become more obvious.
I typically recommend a lymph node ultrasound if you have noticed an enlarged node in your neck, under your jaw, in your armpit, or in your groin.
It may also be appropriate if a lymph node remains enlarged for two to four weeks after a cold, or if you experience pain, redness, or swelling in the surrounding area.
The examination can also be useful before a planned operation, to monitor recovery after treatment for inflammation or another condition, or when chronic infections affect the mouth, ears, nose, throat, or other areas of the body.
