Inflammatory conditions of the female reproductive system

Inflammatory diseases of the female reproductive system are a group of conditions that can significantly affect a woman’s quality of life.

Conventional treatment often includes antibiotics and anti-inflammatory medication. An integrative approach, however, looks beyond symptom management, taking into account potential contributing factors and overall health.

An integrative approach to inflammatory gynaecological conditions may include:

Identifying and addressing contributing factors. It is important to assess not only possible infectious causes, but also factors that may contribute to their development, such as stress, an imbalance in the vaginal microbiome or hormonal changes.

Supporting the immune system. This may include the use of adaptogens where appropriate.

Nutritional support. An anti-inflammatory diet with a focus on omega-3 fatty acids, antioxidants and fibre.

Herbal medicine.

A mind–body approach. Working with stress, emotional wellbeing and psychological factors through meditation, breathing practices and psychotherapy.
